Launched in 2018, MUNDANE is a zine* that was created as a tool for London-born artist, Thomas Brunskill, to explore the 'mundanities' he witnesses in society.
Each issue has a unique focus from satirical takes on bland topics to alternative interpretations and explanations of sociopolitical issues; a juxtaposition between all things ordinary and culturally imperative.
Taking inspiration from his interests in branding, marketing and retail, each issue of MUNDANE toes the line of consumerism by featuring advertising in the zine and/or related merchandise for sale on the website. This is to appropriate the zine, play up to and mock the materialistic culture in our society.
*A zine (short for magazine or fanzine) is a small circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, commonly reproduced via photocopier. They provide a platform for artists and activists to share their work without the infiltration of mass media.
